Life IFRS Actuarial Manager from a Direct Insurer (Japan)
Reporting to: Chief Actuary
Job Description:
- Lead and manage (an) actuarial team(s) of 3-5 members in total, including the Centre of Excellence team in Malaysia, who supports Prophet modelling and regular reporting for Japan Life.
- Deliver actuarial IFRS and Group reporting, covering quarterly closing, forecasting, and planning.
- Conduct annual experience studies and propose assumption changes, leveraging relevant tools and resources under the guidance of the Chief Actuary.
- Partner with relevant teams within Japan Life, including JGAAP Actuarial, Pricing, and broader Finance functions.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders outside Japan Life, such as the APAC regional team, Group Actuarial team, and auditors.
- Drive improvements in local reporting processes, controls, and governance.
Requirements:
- 7-8 years of experience in the actuarial industry or equivalent (specializing in life insurance is a plus).
- Fully or nearly fully qualified by a recognized actuarial body (e.g., IAJ, IFoA, SoA).
- Fluent English, suitable for leading a multinational team and communicating with internal and external stakeholders outside Japan.
- Strong technical skills and solid understanding of actuarial concepts, including IFRS17.
- Proven experience managing a team by providing hands-on guidance and reviewing team members’ day-to-day work with careful attention to detail.
- Advantageous: Experience in experience study and assumption setting.
- Advantageous: Proficiency with Prophet, SQL, and Python.
